Description:
A helmet is a piece of protective gear designed to shield a warrior’s head from blows and various injuries in battle. The main component of the exhibit is a dome-shaped metal base. A metal element (a nasal guard/visor) is attached to the front to protect the face. A chainmail *barmitsa* (aventail) is affixed to the lower edge of the helmet, providing protection for the warrior’s neck and the back of the head. This piece was crafted in 1993 in a specialized workshop in Almaty, specifically for the Shakshak Zhanibek Historical Museum. It serves as a visual historical reconstruction, designed to acquaint visitors with the weaponry and military equipment used by Kazakh warriors in the 18th century—the era in which the *batyr* lived and fought.
Note:
This item is not an authentic artifact dating back to the 18th century. It is a historical reconstruction, produced in 1993 specifically for a museum exhibition commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Shakshak Zhanibek Batyr.
