The spear (*nayza*)

The spear (*nayza*) is a traditional type of edged weapon used by the Kazakh people, widely employed in warfare. It consists of a long wooden shaft and a sharp metal tip. The tip was crafted using artistic forging techniques and is securely attached to the shaft. A leather thong (strap) is affixed to the upper part of the shaft, designed to secure the weapon to the user’s hand and ensure a firm grip during combat. This spear serves as a valuable historical and cultural artifact, vividly illustrating the martial traditions and the sophisticated craftsmanship of our ancestors’ weaponry. [1, 2]

This exhibit is a historical reconstruction, created specifically to introduce visitors to the arms and military equipment used by 18th-century Kazakh warriors—the era in which Shakshak Zhanibek Batyr lived and fought.

Note:

This item is not an authentic artifact dating back to the 18th century. It is a historical reconstruction, crafted in 1993 based on traditional designs, specifically for a museum exhibition commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Shakshak Zhanibek Batyr.
