The "Turgay Gazette" and the History of the Town of Turgay (1896)
    • Description of the Exhibit: The "Turgay Gazette" and the History of the Town of Turgay (1896)

      • Name of the exhibit: Historical archival copies of the "Turgay Gazette" from 1896 and a photograph of the Turgay deputation.
      • Place of discovery: State Archive of the Orenburg Region (brought in 1993 by S. Ospanov).
      • Historical significance and content:

o       Issue No. 4 (1896): This issue contains information regarding the Military Governor of the Turgay Region, Lieutenant General Ya. F. Barabash, and the Head of the Turgay District, Korganbek Birimzhanov. The text officially records that K. Birimzhanov is a direct descendant of the renowned Shakshak Zhanibek Tarkhan, from the Argyn tribe.

o       Issue No. 30 (1896): This issue features the official historical coat of arms of the town of Turgay. Turgay was granted the status of a town in 1845, serving as a major district and regional center (in the Soviet era, its status was changed to that of a village).

o       The Turgay Deputation (1896): The historical photograph on display captures 12 deputies from Turgay, led by K. Birimzhanov (in the center), who were sent on an official visit to the Emperor.

o       Imperial Gift: During this visit, the Turgay delegation presented the Emperor with an exquisite *torsyk* (a traditional leather vessel) inlaid with silver, featuring an embossed design of the 1896 coat of arms of the town of Turgay. This exhibit serves as unique evidence of the region’s high administrative and political status in the late 19th century.
